We are all installing smart devices in our homes such as thermostats, cameras, light switches, coffee makers, and smart hubs we talk to. How do we ensure these devices are secured and don’t threaten other devices on our networks? There are three things we believe are important when using these devices at home or office. Segmentation, credential changing, and updating are critical to ensure proper security. If you are using these devices at the office or even your home, consider a VLAN or a separate network that doesn’t communicate with the network your computers are on. Make sure you change any of the default usernames or passwords on these devices. Also, make sure you are updating the firmware to these devices especially if it is a security update.
